1. Through RTI, secured release of HRA of fellowship dues from CSIR for many PhD students working at ICGEB, New Delhi/ JNU. At the same time, around in 2005-6 participated in dharna at jantar mantar to protest against amendments in RTI that could have made it ineffective.
2. In 2008-9, though RTI , ensured removal of encroachments from streets near our home in Dudhwal dhani, which was completely blocked. The story was published by Rajasthan Patrika , Hanuman Garh Rajasthan, appreciating the use of RTI.
3. In 2010 at Central University of Punjab (CUP)-Bathinda, protested against university authorities who were keeping the original degree certificates of newly joining assistant professors. The certificates of some 40 assistant professors who had already joined, were being kept for indefinite time as long as they work there, that too without providing any official receipt. It was illegal practice to prevent teachers from searching job opportunities elsewhere. These contractual teachers were members of purchase committee etc in this new university being built, but in such situation, teacher will find it difficult to dissent if some corrupt proposal is passed. My movement was not supported enough by colleagues. Then authorities handed over a letter to me saying that my joining on job is not accepted, although I was already working there for 3 days after duly joining there. I filed the case in the high court, but the court took one year to decide in my favor for my joining in such an obvious case. By then, I already started working as permanent faculty at Tripura Central University. The court judgement (CWP 9652 of 2011 in Punjab & Haryana High Court Chandigarh, link to judgement) shows that in attempt to fudge the case there were false accusation on me about misbehaving with a lady which were proved false. The court did not take any cognizance of this well known illegal practice of keeping original document by CUP. The main architect of this illegal activity at CUP was RK Deora (a part-time SOD who was acting as registrar and also part-time running a coaching center), in connivance with VC (Jai Roop Singh). A news article on Friday 2011 June 10 in Hindustan Times Bathinda edition by Kamaldeep Singh Brar, criticized CUP saying that so far the practice of keeping original document was heard in private universities only. (link to news ). After this news, the original degree certificates of all the teachers in CUP were returned and the SOD (RK Deora) was sacked.
4. In a prime-time TV debate by Zee News (Punjab Haryana Himachal) on the matter of death of a saint from Punjab (name: Ashutosh), I was a panelist and argued for promotion of science so that future generations do not fall for superstitions. 5. Contested for PUTA president in 2015 but lost, although in 2017 won as executive member of PUTA.
